Tightening Aadhaar Security, Passport-Like Verification Soon For 18+ Individuals: Report

Aadhaar Card Verification: Individuals above 18 seeking to obtain an Aadhaar for the first time will undergo physical verification, with the state government’s consent, as per the recent announcement by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).

According to a report by ToI, the state government, and not UIDAI Identific will henceforth conduct verification for the complete enrollment in Aadhaar.

For this task, an official stated that the state government will designate nodal officers, and additional district magistrates, at both district and sub-divisional levels.

Individuals falling under this category can avail the Aadhaar facility at designated centers, which include the main post office in each district and other Aadhaar centers specified by the UIDAI.

All Aadhaar applications from individuals in this category will undergo data quality checks before being processed for verification through the service portal.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) will oversee the verification of all requests received through the service portal, and Aadhaar generation will be completed within 180 days of clearance.

Prashant Kumar Singh, deputy director general of UIDAI Lucknow region, said that the recently issued directives are specifically intended for individuals aged 18 and above obtaining their Aadhaar for the first time.

He further mentioned that after the initial Aadhaar issuance, individuals can follow the regular processes for subsequent updates.
